Victor E. Hinkel, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2025, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Born on June 26, 1933, in Chicago, Illinois, Victor lived a full life dedicated to both his family and his career, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Victor pursued his education at Western Michigan University, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Business. His professional journey led him to work for many years in business and insurance sales, but his true calling came as an Evangelist with the New Apostolic Church, where he served the communities of Battle Creek, Galesburg, and Vicksburg. A proud Navy Veteran, he embodied the spirit of service in both his military and civilian life.
Known as a true people person, Victor had the remarkable ability to engage with anyone he met, and he thrived on helping others. His personality brought warmth to every interaction, and his love for assisting and uplifting those around him will be fondly remembered.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Victor enjoyed various hobbies and interests. He found joy in fishing, cheering for U of M football and the Detroit Tigers baseball team, and watching fishing and other sports on television. In his younger years, he embraced the outdoors with enthusiasm through trapping and hunting, further enriching his passionate spirit.
Victor is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Adella Hinkel, and their five children: David (Cheryl) Hinkel, Bruce (Lisa) Hinkel, Karen (Bob) Garrett, Kim (Greg) DeCamp, and LaVern (Jody) Drzick. He was a devoted grandfather to Nicholas, Christian, Jadelin, Matthew, Rachel, Victor, Katie, Halle, Paul Jr., Allison, April, Emilie, Rebecca, Brett, and Brendan, as well as a proud great-grandfather to ten great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Norm (Myrna) Milbrandt.
Victor's memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, who will remember him for his kindness, dedication, and unyielding spirit. He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor Hinkel and Emily Milbrandt, as well as his son, Paul Drzick, and daughter, Elizabeth Laik. His legacy of compassion and love will continue to inspire those fortunate enough to have known him.
