Stanley Lee Porter, lovingly known as Stan, was born on May 21, 1955, to Minnie and William Porter. He spent most of his life in Bangor, Michigan, with time also spent living in Addison, Illinois, and Jacksonville, North Carolina. 

Stan grew up in Bangor and graduated from Bangor High School before answering the call to serve his country in the United States Marine Corps. A skilled heavy diesel mechanic, Stan was a hardworking man who took pride in his abilities and wasn’t afraid to get his hands dirty. Above all else, Stan was a family man. He and his beloved wife, Joanne Porter, shared 54 years together, building a life filled with love, memories, and the kind of history that only comes from spending a lifetime side by side. Together, they raised their children, Beth Guminski and Ray Porter, and became proud grandparents to Camden, Ellie, and Sawyer Guminski, and Evelyn, Eli, and Eleanor Porter. He also welcomed his son-in- law, Dillon Guminski, and daughter-in-law, Nicole Porter, into the family.

Stan had a way of bringing people together, and one of his favorite ways to show love was through food. He loved cooking for everyone and making sure no one went hungry. His catfish, homemade pizzas, and fudge apples were among his specialties, and the memories made around his food and his table will live on in the hearts of those who shared them with him. When he wasn’t cooking for family and friends, Stan enjoyed hunting and target shooting. He appreciated the outdoors and enjoyed the things that brought him happiness throughout his life. Stan was also known for his sense of humor. Even while battling illness, he held on to that humor until the very end.

Stan is survived by his loving wife, Joanne; his children, Beth (Dillon) Guminski and Ray (Nicole) Porter; his six grandchildren, Camden, Ellie, and Sawyer Guminski, and Evelyn, Eli, and Eleanor Porter; and his siblings, Martha Mitchell and Dale Porter. He was preceded in life by his parents, Minnie and William Porter and siblings Doug Porter, Kenneth Porter, William Porter, and Mary Emerick. Stan leaves behind a family who will carry his memory forward through the stories they tell, the laughter they share, the meals they cook, and the traditions that will continue for generations. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
