Scott Michael Lapekas, of Kalamazoo, Michigan, passed away in Kalamazoo on October 31, 2026, at the age of 38. He was born on February 22, 1988, in Kalamazoo. Scott will be remembered for his larger-than-life personality and for the energy he brought to the people and things he loved. He had a special interest in cars, especially working on them, and he also enjoyed off-road vehicles. He was a devoted Michigan State University fan, and those who knew him understood the enthusiasm he brought to the teams and pastimes he followed. Some of the moments that meant the most to him were the simple ones spent with his children, especially going out to lunch. Scott was always willing to help anyone, no matter what it took.

Above all, Scott’s family was at the center of his life. He is survived by his mother, Kelly Wharton (Gary Goff), and his father, Vaughn Lapekas (Jessecca Bowler). He also leaves behind his children, Zackary Gibson, Ava Lapekas, and Blake Lapekas, who were a cherished part of his life and legacy. Scott is also survived by his sisters, Alyssa (Steve) Mead, Autumn Lapekas, Breann Lapekas, and Summer (Evan) Malek; as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. He will be deeply missed by his family and by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Scott’s memory will live on in the love of his family, in the stories shared by those closest to him, and in the lasting impact of his presence. There is a celebration of life being planned for a later date. The family asks for no flowers, but for those desiring, memorial donations may be made to the family to go towards education funds for his children.
