Rodney Lydell Witten passed away unexpectedly on September 17, 2026, at his home in Marcellus, Michigan.

He was born April 27, 1958, to Hans and Moselle Witten. He married Laura Mroczek in 1980, and together they had three children.

From a young age, Rodney farmed with his dad and later continued the farm with his own family. Throughout his life, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, motorcycles, cars, spending time at the lake, and being with lifelong friends. He enjoyed taking his family for tractor rides, four-wheeler rides, and boat rides. The kids were always outside and on the farm with Rodney and Laura.

Rodney showed family and friends that he cared through gestures: making food, saying “watch for deer” when you were leaving, fixing a car—or just pointing out the latest scratch on it—and sometimes by giving you a hard time.

Everyone learned to be prepared when they got in his truck because “be back in a minute” sometimes meant one errand and other times meant a whole day out. You better be ready—and probably bring a jacket!

Rodney is survived by his wife, Laura Mroczek Witten; his children, Stacey Witten, Patty (Nate) Buckhold, and Rodney (Rylee) Witten II; and his grandchildren, Benjamin, Charlie, Wyatt, and Ellie, children of Patty and Nate Buckhold, and Indy, daughter of Rodney and Rylee Witten. He is also survived by his sister, Jeannie Mitchell, and several nieces and nephews.

The family will have a private celebration of life. Memorial contributions may be directed to an organization of the donor’s choice.
