Robert’s passion for serving others was evident throughout his career as a pastor at Ainger Bible Church of Olivet, Michigan and Dixfield Baptist Church in Dixfield, Maine. He was a pillar of strength and support, nurturing the spiritual lives of countless individuals. His commitment to ministry extended beyond the pulpit; he spent a significant amount of time pastoring at nursing homes and facilities, offering companionship and comfort to those unable to attend church.

Robert served his country with honor during a full term in the Navy, a period that shaped his character and instilled in him a deep sense of duty. He was a man of many interests, often immersing himself in studies, acrylic painting, and photography, particularly scenes of nature that reflected his appreciation for God's creation. He was also an enthusiastic hunter and dabbled in gunsmithing, pursuits that allowed him to enjoy the great outdoors and connect with nature.

Known for his caring demeanor, Robert put God first and loved his family unconditionally. He adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren taking great pride in his role as a grandfather. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Sandra "Jean" Shafer; his children, Robert Shafer Jr., Susan (Tom) Langdon, Joel (Terri) Shafer, and Alyson Keir; and his treasured grandchildren, Stephanie (Aaron) Willett, Bryant Langdon, Dylan Shafer, Emily Shafer, and Victoria Langdon. He also leaves three great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Willett, Kara Willett, and Kinley Willett, who were a source of joy in his later years.

Robert is survived by his siblings Bruce Shafer, Sally Szczublewski, and Richard Shafer, and he carries in his heart the memories of those who have passed before him, including his parents Arthur and Violet Shafer, siblings Carl Shafer and Susan Noga, and his beloved grandson Bradley Langdon.
