Listen to Obituary

Robert W. Douglas II, 86, of Lexington, Kentucky, passed away peacefully in his sleep on August 14, 2025, in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Robert (Bob) was born July 26, 1939, to the late Robert and Marietta Douglas in Battle Creek, Michigan. After graduating from Battle Creek Central, Bob joined the Navy and served from 1958–1960. After returning from the Navy, Bob entered the field of sales, ultimately joining Battle Creek Packaging where he remained in packaging sales until his retirement. In January 1963, Bob married Mary Ellen Clark. They had two children, Jeffrey and Julia, and raised their family in Kalamazoo, Michigan. While living in Kalamazoo, Bob and Mary Ellen had many close friends who remained so even after the couple moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1986. Bob and Mary Ellen loved entertaining, traveling, and music, and they shared these loves with their friends, who would frequently visit Cincinnati or travel to New Orleans with them. Bob and Mary Ellen eventually moved to Lexington to be closer to their daughter and granddaughters.

In his later years, Bob devoted much of his time and energy to working with Dementia Friendly Lexington. He helped Pax Christi become Dementia Friendly and was passionate about helping caregivers of Alzheimer's patients. Bob is survived by his children Jeffrey (Kathy) Douglas; Julia Douglas Elliott; grandchildren Jason (Allaina) Douglas, Mark Douglas, Rachel Reynolds, and Sarah Elliott; and two great-grandchildren, Jason Douglas, Jr. and Jairus Douglas. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary Ellen, and his son-in-law, Rick Elliott.
