Rick Duane Griswold, a devoted family man and cherished friend, passed away on September 21, 2025, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, at the age of 75. Born on November 22, 1949, in Cadillac, Michigan, Rick lived a life filled with love, dedication, and an unwavering spirit of independence.
Throughout his life, Rick embraced the role of a homemaker, a vocation he deeply cherished as he devoted himself to raising his children. His tireless commitment to family was evident in every aspect of his life. He took immense pride in being a father to his children, Wade and Sara, and found joy in being a part of the lives of his grandchildren, Pacen and Tessa Brown. They were, without a doubt, some of his greatest treasures.
Rick served his country in the Army, exemplifying the resilience and strength that would define his character. Those who knew him will remember him as a true fighter, someone who faced life's challenges head-on and never shied away from the hard things. His spirit was remarkably independent, and his kindness and loyalty radiated not only to his family but also to his friends. Rick was the quintessential underdog supporter, always cheering for those in need, embodying the principles of compassion and encouragement.
A true outdoorsman at heart, Rick relished hunting and fishing, camping, road trips, live music, and grilling for friends, experiences that brought him great happiness and allowed him to create lasting memories with loved ones.
Rick's departure leaves a void that will be felt by many. He is survived by his beloved children, Wade Griswold and Sara (Zach) Brown, and his cherished grandchildren, Pacen and Tessa. He is also survived by his brother, Jerry Griswold, and brother-in-law, Bug Vanpelt, along with numerous extended family members and friends who were fortunate enough to know him.
Rick is preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Edith Griswold, along with his siblings Betty (Carl) Fortelka, Margaret Vanpelt, Helen (Tom) Harris, and Arlene (Arlen) Matson. Their memories will forever remain intertwined with the legacy of a man who exemplified love and loyalty in every aspect of his life.
