Nelz Ellis Montague, a cherished member of the Shelbyville community, passed away peacefully at his home on May 30, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on April 24, 1942, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, he was the son of the late Howard and Ardath (Baker) Montague.
Nelz dedicated 52 years of his life to owning and operating B & B Body Shop in Shelbyville, a business that flourished under his care and dedication. He was not only a skilled craftsman but also a respected figure in his community, known for his warmth and readiness to help others.
He proudly served as an Army Veteran, and his time in service was a testament to his character and commitment to his country. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Nelz was a devoted family man and took great pride in being involved in the Boy Scout community, where he positively impacted the lives of many young people.
A hot rod enthusiast, Nelz found joy in classic cars and often shared his passion with friends and family. His legacy is enriched by his two sons, Brent (Rose) Montague and Brady (Cheryl) Montague, and his four grandchildren, Dalton, Summer, Shelby, and Randy, who carry on his spirit of love and adventure.
Nelz was predeceased by his beloved wife of 50 years, Nellie, whose memory he held dear. His life was defined by deep connections with family and friends, and he will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
A Hot Rod Show to celebrate Nelz's life will be held at his residence on June 5, 2025, starting at 6:00 PM. Family and friends are invited to join together to honor his memory and the impact he made in their lives. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff and caregivers at Elara Caring Hospice, for their compassionate and respectful care of Nelz.
