Michael Gerald Sharkey, 66, passed away on June 20, 2026, in Kalamazoo, MI. Born in Millington, MI, Michael lived a life centered on family, community, and the sports he loved. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, mentor, and friend whose impact reached far beyond his own family. Known for his love of football and his dedication to coaching, Michael influenced countless young athletes over the years, teaching not only the game but also the values of hard work, discipline, and teamwork.
Michael was a larger than life personality with an uncanny ability to bring people together. Michael was a passionate outdoorsman and gun enthusiast who enjoyed sharing his knowledge and interests with family and friends. Above all, he was a family man who took great pride in the people he loved most. His greatest joy came from spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren, creating memories that will be treasured for generations.
Michael is survived by his beloved wife, Wendy Sharkey; his sons, Michael Sharkey and Kyle Sharkey; his daughters-in-law, Jenn Sharkey and Brandy Hunt; and his cherished grandchildren, Silas Hawthorne and his wife Sarah, Calvin Sharkey, Isaiah Sharkey, and Noelle Sharkey; his sister Sheryl (Sharkey) Boegner and her husband, Dave Boegner; his brother Chad Sharkey and his wife, Shelly Sharkey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald Nelson Sharkey and Sandra Coleen Sharkey.
Michael will be remembered for his strength, loyalty, generosity, and unwavering commitment to those he loved. Whether on the football field, at the range, or gathered with family, he brought people together and left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
His legacy lives on through his family, the athletes he coached, and the many lives he touched throughout his journey. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered with love. A Celebration of Life is being planned, please check back for updates on when and where that will be taking place.
