IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Michael J.
Evans
May 7, 1953 – March 30, 2026
Michael J. Evans, affectionately known to many as Mike, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2026, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, with his loving wife by his side. Born on May 7, 1953, in Elkhart County, Indiana, Mike lived a life marked by deep compassion, unwavering dedication, and a heartfelt commitment to making the world a better place.
Throughout his career, Mike held many positions, but he was most passionate about his role as a Community Organizer. His tireless work centered on empowering individuals to advocate for themselves and access what they needed from those in power. His soft and compassionate heart was particularly moved by those who were unhoused and marginalized by society, and he devoted much of his life to lifting their voices and championing their causes.
A man of intellect and determination, Mike attained two master's degrees: one in Public Administration from Indiana University, and another from Cooley Law School. These accomplishments further fueled his ability to serve his community with knowledge and integrity.
Mike was not only a dedicated professional but also a loving and caring individual. Those who knew him admired his kind heart and gentle spirit. As a devoted husband of over 20 years, he showed immense love for his wife, Brenda Clark. They were united in marriage at Cooper Congregational Church on December 10, 2005. Mike was always quick to compliment Brenda on her beauty, intelligence, and creativity, expressing frequently how proud he was of her. Together, they enjoyed traveling to different zoos and museums, exploring various culinary experiences, and cherishing the company of their beloved animals.
In his leisure moments, Mike was a talented writer and found joy in watching British television shows—pastimes that reflected his thoughtful and reflective nature. His curiosity and love for discovery were evident in the care with which he embraced every experience.
Mike’s parents, James and Georgia Evans, preceded him in death. He leaves behind his treasured wife, Brenda, whose partnership and devotion were a source of great happiness throughout his life.
Michael J. Evans will be remembered for his profound kindness, his dedication to advocacy, and the warmth he brought to every relationship. His legacy of compassion and service to others will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
