Kalamazoo

Mario Anton Palmer, a beloved figure whose laughter and positivity blended seamlessly with his hard work ethic, left this world on May 23, 2025. Born in Springfield, Illinois, on August 25, 1960, he used every day of his 64 years to build a life rich in love, family, and purpose. From his early days playing football in high school to becoming a proud owner of a construction business—serving both residential and commercial needs—and a pressure washing venture, Mario was the embodiment of dedication and ambition.

With a heart that extended far beyond business, Mario poured time and energy into Habitat for Humanity, contributing not just his skills but his spirit to the community. His passions, however, were never restricted to work alone. Over the years, Mario embraced a multitude of interests that created a vibrant kaleidoscope of his life. A gifted musician, he filled his home with the soulful sounds of the drums and guitar invoking memories of joyous gatherings where friends and family would join in the celebration of music.

An ardent outdoorsman, Mario possessed an immense love for nature, particularly through his passion for deer and turkey hunting. He cherished these moments, filled not only with the thrill of the hunt but also with the lessons of nature and the bond they forged with family. One of his fondest memories was teaching his son, Colten, the ways of hunting—instilling confidence in his young heart as they ventured into the field together. He naturally turned hunting trips into teachings of safety and responsibility, often using his cherished bow. These lessons extended into other areas of life, including the joy of welcoming audiences at his son Colten's first concert, where he stood proudly alongside Colten’s mother, ensuring their son felt calm and supported in front of the crowd.

Beyond his family and work, Mario was known among his friends as a jack-of-all-trades, displaying an expansive knowledge of mechanics that earned him admiration and respect. His passion for motorcycles and cars mirrored his zest for life—always exploring, always discovering. Later in life, Mario took to beekeeping, nurturing a love for these fascinating creatures that reflected his gentle spirit and deep appreciation for all living things. Known affectionately as the "Animal Whisperer," he had an incredible ability to connect with nature and its creatures, a quality that endears him deeply in the hearts of those who knew him.

Mario is survived by his loving sons, Colten Palmer and Josh Hale, who carry forward his legacy of love, hard work, and laughter. He is also remembered fondly by his sisters and brothers, Judy Rochon, Phil Crabtree, Richard Crabtree, and Jeff Crabtree, along with his five cherished grandchildren: Layla, Isabelle, and Mason Hale, as well as Brayden and Britain Hawley.

While his father, Arthur Palmer, and mother, Bonnie Palmer, have passed before him, their influences shaped the man Mario became—strong, community-focused, and above all, a devoted family man. As we remember Mario Anton Palmer, we celebrate a life that embodied joy, connection, and the relentless pursuit of happiness, leaving an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
