Lois Jean Baker, 70 of Kalamazoo, MI passed away on July 23, 2026. She was born August 29, 1955 in Niles, MI to Robert L. Baker and Elizabeth “Betty June” Siders Balbo (Peter Balbo). She grew up in Berrien Springs and shared found memories of growing up in a small town. Lois graduated from Berrien Springs High School class of 1973. She went on to attend Western Michigan University and received a bachelors in mathematics. She was passionate about learning and being a student, so she furthered her studies at Western by obtaining a Master of Business Administration. In 1980, she married her high school sweetheart George Czirr. They decided to settle in Kalamazoo and raise a family, while she worked for The Upjohn Company which is now Pfizer.

Lois was a dedicated wife, mother, friend, sister, aunt, and Nani to all who knew her. She adored spending time with family by hosting summer pool parties, attending family reunions, and watching her children, nieces, and nephews participate and compete in sports, band, dance recitals, and more. You could count on her to lead the cheers and to bring a poster. Lois also loved anything involving the outdoors and being active. Whenever, there was a nice summer day, she would pack the car up and take the family with their bikes to the beach. Her adventurous spirit and love for being outdoors took the family all across the United States to camp. Every family vacation included dancing to oldies music, swimming, and bike riding. Lois valued community and modeled how there are different ways to contribute. Prior to motherhood, Lois was an active member of the Kalamazoo Track Club and she volunteered at the local YMCA. Later, she was an active volunteer at her children’s school and PTA. She currently volunteered her to time to advocate and fund several nonprofit organizations.

She is proceeded in death by her mother, Elizabeth Balbo and step father, Peter Balbo; her sisters, Susan Morrison and Carol Prillwitz; and nephew Aaron Prillwitz . She is survived by her husband, George Czirr; daughters, Katie Czirr and Carrie Czirr Bruski (Jon Bruski); grandson, Noah Bruski; sister, Martha (Robert) Binell, and brother, Frank (Gigi) Baker.

Lois always made space for optimism and joy in times of sadness. To honor her adventurous, playful, and compassionate spirit, her family will be hosting Celebration of Life- open house style at the University Road House on Thursday, August 13, 2026 from 3-6pm.
