Larry Eugene Hass

Larry Eugene Hass, age 72, passed away August 13, 2025 at Vibrant Life Assisted Living. He was born May 1, 1953, in Niles, MI to Frederick and Evelyn (Smith) Hass.

Larry was a long time professor at Glen Oaks Community College from 1985 - 2014. He taught many Accounting, Intro to Management, and Small Business Management Classes. Larry was named 5 times to the Who’s Who Among Teachers at Americas Junior Colleges. He won the E J Shaheen Award in May of 2000 and was also granted “ Professor Emeritus” status in 2020. Larry published his first book” How To Start A Successful Business” in 2020 and before that, he wrote and edited numerous text books.

Larry earned his Associate Degree from Glen Oaks in the late 70’s. He went on to  earn his BA in management, and his MS in Accountancy from the Haworth College of Business at Western Michigan University. Larry was a veteran, proudly serving his country in the Army from 1973 to 1976. Larry was a kind, generous, and encouraging man with a great sense of humor and quick wit. He loved to play pool, playing in many tournaments. His students would often find him at the pool table on the concourse.

In 1984, Larry married the love of his life, Audrey. He was an amazing Dad to her two daughters, and their son. Larry is survived by his children, Alysa Taylor, Mandy (Dan) Dexter, and David (Heather) Hass; grandchildren, Rebecca and James Murphy; and his siblings, Barbara Harold, and Danny Hass. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Evelyn; his beautiful wife, Audrey; and his older brother, Charlie.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, Aug 19, 2025 at Glen Oaks Community College, in their Business Development Center 62249 Shimmel Rd. Centreville, MI 49032. He will be laid to rest beside his wife in Kentucky, at a later day.
