Kristen Kathryn Smith, born on March 31, 1974, in Farmington Hills, Michigan, passed away on January 31, 2026, in Dowagiac, Michigan.

Kristen was a bright, joyful presence—a very happy person to be around—and those who knew her felt that joy deeply. She was known for her strong work ethic, her goofy sense of humor, and the way she poured her whole heart into the people she loved. Kristen was a devoted mother who would do anything for her son, Hunter. She took immense pride in being a “dog grandmother” to her grand pups, loving them with the same warmth she gave everyone in her life.

From her mother’s heart: “Kristen was my best friend and my daughter. I will miss her so much, every day. When she came to live with me and Bobbie, we had such a great time together. She stayed with us for nine months, and I enjoyed having her around more than words can say. I miss you and love you always.”

Kristen is survived by her loving son, Hunter Smith, and his partner Amara. She is also survived by her devoted parents, Carl Thrushman and Bonnie Thrushman, who will forever hold her memory close. She is also deeply missed by Troy, her lifelong best friend, who loved Kristen dearly and shared a bond with her that remained constant throughout her life.

She is reunited now with her beloved brother Kurt, who preceded her in death and held a special place in her heart.

Kristen was affectionately called “Skippy” by Carl, who will miss her dearly as well.

Kristen leaves behind a legacy of warmth, resilience, humor, and unconditional love. Her family and friends will forever carry her memory in their hearts.
