Kathryn Sue Courteau, affectionately known as Kathy, passed away unexpectedly on December 30, 2025, in Richland, MI. Born on September 30, 1952, Kathy lived a life characterized by her infectious laughter, unwavering happiness, and a spirit that embraced fun and adventure. Her career spanned many years in law administration at both Cooley Law School and The Detroit College of Law. Following this, she transitioned into a rewarding role as a driving instructor, where her passion for teaching shone brightly as she guided countless teenagers through the intricacies of driving.

Kathy was not only dedicated to her professional pursuits but also invested in her community as a proud member of the Lioness Club. Her vibrant personality and genuine warmth left an indelible mark on everyone she encountered. Nature was Kathy’s sanctuary; she found immense joy in sitting on her screened-in porch, captivated by the beauty of hummingbirds, dear, and the serene presence of springtime fawns. The hawks bathing in her wheelbarrow were not merely sights to her; they were part of the magical connection she felt with the world around her. This deep appreciation for nature was a gift she lovingly passed on to her family.

She is survived by her beloved daughter, Allecia (Beach) Lamb-Ridge (Jeff “Van” Vande Zande); grandchildren Kristina Linley (Ben), Erika Hamilton (Mike), Tom Johnson, Ashley Daggett (James), SkyAnn E. Lamb (Ron); great-grandchildren Taiylor Wright, Hailie Nixon (Tristen), Jade Hamilton, Emma Wright, Michaela Hamilton, Hailey Hamilton, Rylee Wright, Keegan Hamilton, Carter Lamb, Jonas Daggett, Sophia Daggett, Avery Daggett, Katherine Linley, Harley Linley, Gunner Linley, Brooklyn Fanko, Peyton Lamb, Olivia Johnson, Alyssa Johnson, JR Johnson, Levi Johnson; and great-great-grandchildren Frank Todd Calhoun, Dawson Wey, and Natalea Oaks. Kathy is also survived by her brother Paul Weisenberg, sisters Karen Herbers (Jerry), Cynthia Ridge (Allen), and Brenda Francis, and her beloved ex-husband and surrogate father to her daughter, William (Bill) Courteau. Also, she is survived by her, along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends who were touched by her kindness.

Kathy was preceded in death by her fathers, Gaylord Weisenberg and Oz Francis;  and her mother, Mary Ellen Francis. She will also be lovingly remembered alongside her sister and best friend, Theresa "Terri" Elkins, whose reunion is sure to inspire smiles and laughter in the afterlife. Kathy was also predeceased by her sons-in-law, Todd A. Lamb and Marc A. Ridge; as well as her daughter “Baby Girl Beach”, and Kenneth W. Beach, father to her beloved daughters.

As we reflect on Kathryns' life, we remember a woman who embraced her passions, cherished her family, and embodied joy wherever she went. Her legacy of love and laughter will continue to inspire those who knew her. Kathy’s daughter notes her mother’s superpower of being your own home; wherever Kathy was in life…she was home and that is a beautiful space to live in. "Thank you, momma, for the foundation you taught me to build within myself."
