Kathy Watson passed away on April 23, 2026, at home, surrounded by the family she loved so deeply, after a brief battle with melanoma.

She was born on July 19, 1958, in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, and spent her early years in Wilmington, Delaware before her family relocated to Michigan. Over the years, she made homes in Portage, Tennessee, Whitmore Lake, and Battle Creek, creating warmth and belonging wherever she went.

Kathy shared nearly 49 years of marriage with her soulmate, John Watson. Together, they built a life rooted in love, partnership, and unwavering devotion. She was a devoted mother to Sara Julius and Jeremy (Megan) Watson, and a proud and loving grandmother to Layla Watson, Cooper Julius, Addison Julius, and Jagger Watson. Her family was the center of her world, and she showed up for them in every way, every day.

She dedicated much of her professional life as a surgical scheduler across several medical specialties, including urology, orthopedics and sports medicine, ophthalmology, and general surgery. She also shared her talents through her work with The Ample Pantry, where she managed the commercial kitchen and brought her gift for planning, hosting, and caring for others to life.

Kathy had a special way of making things beautiful. She loved interior design, home improvement projects, gardening, knitting, and needlework. She created cherished family traditions, including hand-knitting nearly every Christmas stocking in the family, each one made with love and care. She was a lifelong reader who could often be found with a book in hand. She found joy at the beach, on the water, and in the magic of the Christmas season she adored so much.

She was also a devoted fan of the Michigan Wolverines, faithfully cheering them on every football Saturday and proudly dressed in maize and blue.

More than anything, Kathy will be remembered for the way she loved. She was kind, gentle, and deeply compassionate, with a generous spirit and a quiet strength that carried those around her. Thoughtful and selfless, she was often the one who stepped in without being asked, offering steady support and care. To so many, she was the constant, the calm, and the glue that held everything together.

She is survived by her husband, John Watson; her children, Sara Julius and Jeremy (Megan) Watson; and her beloved grandchildren, Layla, Cooper, Addison, and Jagger. She is also survived by her siblings, Susan McGraw, Bob (Betsy) McGraw, Joe (Pam) McGraw, and Trisha Gelbaugh, as well as many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Elizabeth McGraw, and her brother, Bill McGraw.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 22, 2026, from 4:30 to 7:00 PM at the Portage Zhang Senior Center.

In lieu of flowers or donations, the family kindly asks that you plant a tree or flowers of your choosing in Kathy’s memory, a simple gesture that reflects something she truly loved.
