Karen Lynne Whitsel

Karen Lynne Whitsel, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on December 8, 2025, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, at the age of 58. Born on March 9, 1967, in Oak Lawn, IL, Karen was a person of fierce independence and unwavering strength, embodying a vibrant spirit that many came to admire and cherish.

Throughout her life, Karen was known for her fabulous personality. She opened her heart and home to anyone who needed it, proudly taking on the role of mom to countless individuals over the years. Her open door policy was a testament to her kind nature and her willingness to support those around her, providing comfort and a sense of belonging in times of need.

As a dedicated mother, Karen raised four children: Nicholas Huffer, Micheal (Maribeth) Huffer, Antonia (Josh) Whitsel, and Douglas (Alex) Whitsel. Her love for her children extended into her proud role as a grandmother to nine grandchildren: Braden, Maddie, Kenzie, John, DJ, Josh, Evie, Penny, and Jaxson. Being a Nana was among her proudest accomplishments and brought her immense joy throughout her life.

Karen cherished her relationships with her siblings, Cindy, Kris, Bonnie, and Ricky, as well as her lifelong friends, Paul "Pops" and Berta, who were integral parts of her journey. She also had many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

In her personal pursuits, Karen enjoyed cooking and reading, activities that allowed her to share her love for family and friends through delicious meals and engaging stories.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Douglas and Sharon (Brinkman) Huffer, and two siblings, Kim and Kenny. Their memories will forever live on through the family she cherished so deeply.

As we remember Karen Lynne Whitsel, we celebrate a life filled with love, generosity, and extraordinary strength. She will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege to know her.
