Jewell Elva Williams, a cherished matriarch and beloved friend to many, was born on November 14, 1938, in Pecks Mill, West Virginia, a quiet and close-knit community nestled in the heart of Logan County. Surrounded by the rolling Appalachian foothills, Pecks Mill embodies the spirit of rural West Virginia, where neighbors look after one another and traditions run deep. It was here that Jewell’s love for family and strong sense of connection were first nurtured—values that stayed with her throughout her life. She passed away peacefully at home in Watervliet, Michigan, on May 7, 2025, surrounded by the warmth of her family’s love.
Throughout her remarkable life, Jewell dedicated a significant portion of her career to the food service industry, where she nurtured countless others with her culinary skills and friendly spirit. Her love for family was evident in all that she did, as she consistently made time for family gatherings, each one a treasured event that she held close to her heart.
Jewell was known for her fierce competitive spirit, especially when it came to playing cards—a pastime that illuminated her vibrant personality. Friends and family often gathered around her table, eager to witness the fun of her card games, where laughter and friendly rivalry thrived. When she wasn’t engaging in spirited card matches, she could be found delighting in the challenges of crosswords, losing herself in novels, or carefully piecing together intricate puzzles. These activities not only brought her joy but also shaped the fond memories that her loved ones will carry with them.
The love Jewell shared with her family was profound and unwavering. She is survived by her son David and Jody (daughter-in-law) Williams, her grandson Grant and (Tiffany) Williams, and one great-grandchild. Family members Lou Eplin and Beverly Barnes were like daughters to her, embodying the special bond they shared. Jewell also leaves behind one sibling Brenda Rutherford, who will carry forward the legacy of love and warmth she so beautifully embodied.
Jewell joins her late husband, Robert Williams, who passed away 10 years prior, as well as her parents Leonard White and Frankie Marie Baldwin (Jeffrey), step-father Nandus Baldwin, alongside the seven brothers and sisters who welcomed her into the next phase of life.
Jewell Elva Williams lived her days steeped in love, laughter, and the joy of connection. Her remarkable spirit will forever be remembered and celebrated in the hearts of those lucky enough to know her.
Cremation has been entrusted to Family First Funeral & Cremation Services. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
