James Robert Mitschelen, born on July 18, 1967, in Houston, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on January 13, 2026, in Bronson, Michigan. His life was a testament to love and commitment, particularly toward his family and friends, whom he cherished deeply.

James is survived by his three children: Brittney (Ken Broom) Johansen, Andrea Boyd, and Shawn Cuvelier. He also leaves behind a legacy of love as he is the proud grandfather of 14 grandchildren and a great-grandfather to 2 great-grandchildren. James shared a special bond with his siblings: Joy, Hope, Donna, Paul, Karen, and Matthew, who will carry fond memories of him in their hearts.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Ruth (Younts) Mitschelen, his son, Tyler James Mitschelen, his sister, Faith and his brother Mark. Their memories will continue to inspire those who loved him.

Throughout his life, James was an active member in celebrate recovery as a sponsor. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, actively participating at the Christian Fellowship Center, where he took part in the Guarding God’s Anointed security team. James also found peace and contentment in nature, particularly during his fishing excursions, which allowed him to connect with family and friends in a meaningful way.

A Celebration of Life will be held to honor James’s memory on February 1, 2026, beginning at 3:00 PM at the Christian Fellowship Center, located at 201 North St, Sturgis, MI 49091. Family and friends are invited to gather as they remember the life of a remarkable man who touched many lives with his kindness and strength.
