Hendrik "Henk" Perdok, 86, died peacefully, surrounded by a lifetime of love, family and quiet kindness. Henk was born in Appingedam, Netherlands, in 1940, in the middle of World War II, the third of four children. At 17, he moved to the United States with his parents and younger sister, Ina, while his older brother and sister stayed behind in the Netherlands. In 1959, his parents and sister returned home, but Henk chose to stay, building his life inKalamazoo, Michigan, and making many return trips to the Netherlands.

In 1964, he married Anje "Ann" (Tammeling) Perdok, they were married for 62 years. Together they raised two daughters, Renee and Monique. Henk was a humble, caring man who didn't need much to be happy - just the people he loved close by. He had a quiet way about him, but his generosity and genuine concern for others came through clearly to everyone who knew him. He spent countless hours in his yard, tending to his vegetable and flower gardens. Henk and Anje also spent numerous winters in Florida. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, uncle and grandfather.

Henk is survived by his wife, Anje; his daughters, Renee (Dan Falotico) and Monique; and his grandson, Benjamin Shonka, who held a special place in his heart. He is also survived by his sister, Ina Bulthuis and his nieces and nephews in the Netherlands and sister-in-law, Maria Allen.
