Harrold Arthur Allgyer, age 65, of Bellevue, Michigan, passed away on July 14, 2026, in Battle Creek. He was born on October 11, 1960, in Kalamazoo, Michigan, to Amos Lapp Allgyer and Mary Lorraine Allgyer (Purk).

As a child, he enjoyed sports, playing Little League Baseball, Rocket Football, and mastering riding a unicycle, which none of his siblings could ever get the hang of. He was often seen at the watering hole at Portage Creek and was always ready to play whatever neighborhood pickup game happened to take place in his very big yard: kickball, baseball, football, volleyball, badminton, Jarts, frisbee, and even “Gray Fox” after dark.

Harrold was a very colorful character, and if there was one thing everyone could agree on, it was that Harrold was unapologetically himself. He walked through life to the beat of his own drum, and he wasn’t about to change for anyone. He could be stubborn, but those who loved him knew that behind that stubbornness was a heart that cared deeply, and if you needed a hand, there was a good chance he’d be there to help.

Harrold was a true jack of all trades who enjoyed working with his hands. His work took him from steel fabrication to greenhouse work to tree felling to handyman, where he was always willing to learn something new or tackle a problem his own way. He didn’t need to have all the answers right away; half the fun was finding them.

Life’s simple pleasures were often his favorite. He enjoyed listening to music, fishing, cooking and canning, collecting coins, older model Ford pickup trucks, and could happily spend an evening kicked back in his recliner watching NCIS. His faithful pit bull, Ellie Mae, was never far from his side and held a special place in his heart.

Harrold was preceded in death by his parents, Amos Lapp Allgyer and Mary Lorraine Allgyer (Purk). He is survived by his siblings, Katie Allgyer, Amos Allgyer, Janet (Bob) Thayer, and Anna (Brian) Matecun; his nephew, Chris (Lindsay) Dalla; and several other nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will miss him dearly.

Those who knew Harrold know he wouldn’t want today to be about sadness. He would probably prefer that people remember him with a laugh, tell a good story, and argue over who remembered it correctly. While he may no longer be with us, the stories, the laughter, and the love he shared all have a way of making sure he’ll never be far away in our hearts and minds.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Harrold’s life on Friday, September 4, 2026, at Calvary Bible Church (Entrance D), 855 S. Drake Road, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49009. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon will be held immediately following the service, where family and friends are encouraged to continue sharing memories and stories of Harrold.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Harrold’s memory to the Kalamazoo Humane Society, 2272 River Street, Kalamazoo, Michigan 49048.
