George Lloyd Salter

August 5, 1940 — May 31, 2025

Three Rivers formerly of Marcellus

George Lloyd Salter, a beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2025, at the age of 84 in Kalamazoo, MI. Born on August 5, 1940, in Three Rivers, MI, George was known for his enduring spirit and the warmth he brought to the lives of those around him.

A dedicated truck driver, most recently for Northrup Logging, George's commitment to his work was matched only by his passion for life outside of his profession. His fondness for the game of golf was well-known, and he found great joy in watching Oklahoma girls softball and cheering on the Green Bay Packers. George was also active with the VFW, where he delighted in helping with community events such as fish fries and hog roasts. More than anything, he cherished the time spent with his grandchildren, celebrating milestones and creating memories together.

George leaves behind a loving family who will carry forward his legacy. He is survived by his three children, Tammy (Perry) Rogers, Joseph (Mary) Salter, and Shelly (Carl) Sonnevil. He was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren: Brean Haag, Amy (Dusty) Shugars, Jared (Coral) Salter, Caleb Salter, Justin (Rachel) Sonnevil, and Austin Sonnevil. Additionally, George was blessed with eight great-grandchildren: Elizabeth Fochs, Peyton Gibson, Jackson Haag, Mckenzie Shugars, Ellie Sonnevil, Hunter Sonnevil, Lexie Salter, and Willard Salter.

He will be remembered not only for his contributions to his family but also for his friendly demeanor and the joy he brought to all who knew him. A visitation with family will be held on June 8, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 PM, both at Family First Funeral & Cremation Services in Marcellus, MI. Following the service, there will be a luncheon held at the VFW in Marcellus, to continue to share memories of George. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Bronson Health Foundation: Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Fund 301 John St. Box 73 Kalamazoo, MI 49007 or to the American Diabetes Association https://diabetes.org/local/michigan in memory of George L.
