George Donald Elliott

July 2, 1954 — June 18, 2025

Kalamazoo, MI

George Donald "Butch" Elliott Jr. age 70, passed away on June 18, 2025, in Kalamazoo, MI. Born on July 2, 1954 in the same city he called home throughout his life. George was a proud Michigander whose roots ran deep in family.

George attended Loy Norrix High School and later returned to complete his GED, a testament of his determination. He faced life challenges with his heart, especially during his long battle with COPD. Through it all, he never gave up.

A devoted sports fan, George's passion for the Detroit Lions, Detroit Tigers, and the University of Michigan Wolverines was legendary among those who knew him. Game days were sacred, so much so that he often reminded loved ones not to call while the game was on. His enthusiasm for Michigan sports was more than a past time, it was part of his identity. George found great joy in the outdoors. Deer hunting and fishing were among his favorite activities that brought him peace. These hobbies were reflected in his patience and appreciation for life's quiet moments.

Family meant everything to George. He was deeply family oriented and known affectionately as a "mama's boy" holding a special bond with his mother throughout his life. He raised many who lovingly called him "Dad" extending his care beyond biological ties. His legacy lives on through his grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and the many lives he has touched and loved.

He leaves behind his wife of 18 years, Tammy Elliott who stood by him through it all and their love will always be remembered. Sons, Bubba and Brandon; daughter, Josie; step-children, Sam, Robert and Michael; sisters, Vonnie (Richard) Deanda and Jackie Elliott; brothers, Gerald Elliott and Jody Elliott; brother-in-law, Thomas (Brandi) Blodgett.

George was preceded in death by his mother, Mara Bailey; father, George Elliott Sr.; daughter, Lisa DeRuyscher; sisters, Vickie Elliott and Georgia Joann Miller; and brother, Edward Elliott.

A man of strength, humor, loyalty and heart. George Donald "Butch" Elliott will be remembered by all who knew him for the love he gave so freely and he showed everyday. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him. Go Blue!
