Edna Pearl Goff (Cordell), age 93, of Decatur, Michigan, passed away on March 16, 2026. She was born on November 9, 1932, in Detroit, Michigan, and carried with her a strength and determination that would shape the course of her life.

Edna’s early years were not without hardship. Raised in Detroit in a home marked by her parents’ divorce, she learned at a young age how to persevere and make the best of difficult circumstances. She shared a deep love for her father, and his passing while she was still a young woman left a lasting impact on her heart. That loss led her to reflect deeply on life’s meaning and set her on a spiritual path that would guide her for the rest of her days.

As a young woman, Edna studied the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses, finding in it a hope that became the foundation of her life. She was known for her toughness, determination, and zeal, qualities that carried her through life’s many challenges. Her faith was central to who she was, and she spent many years sharing that hope with others, encouraging them to examine the Scriptures and draw closer to God. She found great joy in helping others grow in their understanding and faith.

Edna married Albert Paul Goff, and together they built a life centered on family. They were blessed with five children, along with many grandchildren and great grandchildren who carry forward her legacy. In pursuit of a quieter life, they moved their family to Decatur, where she later also cared for her mother. In a testament to her persistence and resourcefulness, Edna, alongside her niece, built a small home on her property so she could lovingly care for her mother until her passing. That home still stands today as a symbol of her dedication.

She was known for her unwavering persistence. When her husband suffered a devastating injury that left him unable to work for a time, Edna stepped forward without hesitation. She took on new work, cared for her husband, and ensured her children never went without. Her strength during those years reflected the depth of her commitment to her family.

Edna embraced life with energy and purpose. She and her husband shared a love of travel and spent several years living in South Carolina, where they formed lifelong friendships that continued long after they returned to Michigan. She loved playing cards, especially Pinochle, and treasured the many hours spent laughing with family and friends around the table. Music also brought her joy, and she often played the piano for her own enjoyment and for others.

She found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. Edna loved to dance and continued to do so even in her later years. She enjoyed crocheting, creating afghans and doilies for those she loved, and she was an avid reader who was always looking forward to her next book. She was rarely content to sit still, always ready to go shopping, dine out, or take in a movie. A devoted Michigan sports fan, she especially enjoyed watching the Detroit Lions and the Detroit Tigers.

Edna’s life was not without its challenges. She faithfully cared for her husband for many years as his health declined, ensuring he received the best care possible. After his passing on November 4, 2011, she carried on with courage, leaning on her faith and the love of her family and congregation. During the pandemic, she remained determined to stay connected, learning to use Zoom so she could attend meetings and maintain friendships. When she was finally able to return in person to the Kingdom Hall, she was welcomed with the warm embraces she so dearly loved.

Those who knew Edna will remember her for her laughter, her resilience, and the way she made others feel through her warmth and affection. She had a special love for hugs and shared that freely, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Edna is survived by her children Donald Goff, Roberta Burtzlaff, Lisa Bancroft, Julia Bancroft, and Philip Goff, along with many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Albert Paul Goff, her parents Donald Cordell and Edna Pearl Cordell (Cooper), and her siblings.

Edna’s life was one of faith, perseverance, and love. Her legacy lives on in her family, her friends, and the many lives she touched through her kindness, strength, and unwavering devotion.
