Dr Daniel Edward Behr loved God with his entire being; that means, he earnestly sought to do God's will, in all things. This is called living "worshipfully devoted" to Our Heavenly Father or following His righteousness for our lives. God directed him towards teaching, like his father, mother, & grandfather before him. However, he had to become a dad first. That, of course, requires a wife.
Coralee Pearl Fulton married Daniel Edward Behr before he had titles. They started having children while he was earning his masters in Dayton, Ohio & ended up with three boys Aaron, Andrew & Adam. God opened the door for Dan to teach communications at Mount Vernon Nazarene College. There, he produced & directed the drama department then eventually became a circuit missionary. His testimony is that God called him to it & directed the path. He worked there until retirement.
He took his time receiving his doctorate from OSU, because his boys were his friends & he wanted every moment he could spend with them. He spent hours! From "Magic: The Gathering", the OG NES, to endless nerdy TV talk, & they practiced the Shema. Daniel was born an only child & loved his boys as if they were his brothers. His three boys did, what they have a tendency to do, & that's grow into men. They married & gave Dan his next batch of friends; in the form of grandchildren.
However, Dr Daniel Behr, is a busy body. His hobbies ranged from "professional" Hosta gardener, a retirement job at Lowe's, & continued service on the mission field. He worked at APNTS, where him and Coralee Behr, were able to make new friends from all over the world. They were loved by their students & often brought the Joy or "Fun Spirit" with them. Daniel is, through & through, a man who will tell you that he serves The God who Provides. The proof is that God gave an only child who wanted friends, all the friends he could ever pray to obtain, the career of his dreams, & the funnest wife, who got his humor.
He wrote this about their relationship:
Coralee and I shared many laughs over the years. One time we were watching television and an ad for hearing aids came on. The announcer extolled the virtues of the device and then offered one for a thousand dollars, and the other one was free. She said “A thousand dollars for a hearing aid?! Wouldn’t it be cheaper to just say ‘WHAT?’”
We even had our own catch phrases. Mine was “Sorry I’m late, I got to talking.” As a bit of an extrovert, I often lost track of time while conversing.
She frequently joked, “I raised four boys. I married one and gave birth to three more.” Raising boys took its toll on her dishes and keepsakes, so hers was, “I can never have anything nice.” So frequently did we hear it that I teasingly threatened to put it on her tombstone.
Lowes Employee Relief Fund grant provided enough to pay for a double plot and a double headstone of beautiful, imported, Indian red granite. The front has both our names and dates with some doves.
On the back, behind my name, it says, “Sorry I’m late, I got to talking.” Which will be funnier the longer time passes. And yes, behind her name, it says. “I can never have anything nice.”
We get one last laugh together.
