IN LOVING MEMORY OF
David Allen
VanDommelen
April 21, 1942 – January 22, 2026
David Allen VanDommelen, age 83, was born April 21, 1942, in Holland, Michigan, and passed away January 22, 2026, in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He made his home in Plainwell, Michigan, where he built a life centered on connection, laughter, and helping others.
David had a fun, boisterous spirit and a personality that filled a room. Kind-hearted and generous, he consistently put others first. Those who met him quickly felt his warmth, and he left a lasting impression everywhere he went. He was deeply loved and respected, known for the positive influence he had on people throughout his life. He also honorably served his country in the United States Army for four years, an experience that reflected his sense of duty and commitment.
He shared a devoted companionship with Jeanie Borgais, his life partner of 25 years. They met in Michigan in 1998 through their shared passions for sales and auctions, instantly forming a strong bond built on friendship, partnership, and many shared adventures.
A dedicated businessman, David spent many years working within service-related industries. He had a natural ability to connect with people, which served him well both professionally and personally.
David had a true passion for football and was a loyal Detroit Lions fan. He also enjoyed coin collecting and sports card memorabilia, hobbies that reflected both his love of history and the thrill of the find. Travel brought him great joy, especially road trips and time spent exploring Tennessee, Kentucky, and Hawaii. He loved the open road and the sense of freedom it gave him.
He is survived by his beloved life partner, Jeanie Borgais; his three children, Darrell (Kim) VanDommelen, Vicki (Bob) Hafler, and Philip VanDommelen; and ten loving grandchildren, Amber (Josh) Rithamel, Jazmine (Joe) Guzman, Dexter (Mariel) VanDommelen, Makennah VanDommelen, Nate Hafler, Tracy (Jason) Mace, Sherri (Randy) VanDyke, Danielle Creekmore, Hannah (Josh) Ramsey, and Rachel (Chris) Mokma.
He is also survived by his siblings, Ruth (Lane) Tharp, Lois Grotler, and Paul (Cindy) VanDommelen, along with many extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory.
David will be remembered for his big heart, lively personality, and the many lives he touched simply by being himself.
