Born on June 9, 1934, in Schenectady, New York, Charles lived a life rich in love, family, and passion.

Charles attended Syracuse University in New York, where he met his devoted wife, Constance "Connie" Tolman. They embarked on their journey together when they were married on August 9, 1958, in Rochester, New York. The couple cherished their time together, sharing interests and crafting memories that would last a lifetime. His love for music was a significant part of his life, having played the piano, violin, and clarinet. Charles found immense joy in listening to classical music, and he and Connie were season ticket holders of the Grand Rapids Symphony, where they particularly delighted in pieces such as the "Orange Blossom Special" by James Last.
