Charlene Judith Sheetz, age 84, passed away on June 25, 2026. Born October 14, 1941, in Joliet, IL, Charlene was the oldest daughter of Bernice and Charles Mack, and sister of Bruce (Gail) Mack. She attended Lewis University and Indiana University where she developed a strong sense of independence and determination that would guide her throughout both her personal and professional life. Charlene was a long-time educator for Elkhart Community Schools, where she last taught at Bristol Elementary School before retiring after 33 years. She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Harold A. Sheetz. Charlene is survived by her two sons, John (Dionne) Sheetz and Kevin (Jennifer) Sheetz; as well as six grandchildren, Vincent, Jack, Elizabeth, Olivia, Adalynn and Greyson. Charlene was a big fan of women's basketball, loved animals and lake life. After living most of her life near Birch Lake, she also spent many years in Florida and Tennessee with her longtime companion and friend Steve Wiseman, who cared for her in her final days. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026 at 11:00 am at Family First Funeral & Cremation Services, 52780 M-40 Marcellus, MI 49067. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
