August 4, 1927 – May 31, 2026
Carroll W. "Moon" Rimes
Carroll William "Moon" Rimes, age 98, of Lawton, Michigan, passed away peacefully at White Oaks in Lawton, Michigan, on May 31, 2026.
Moon was born on August 4, 1927, in Cassopolis, Michigan, to Harold and Mary (Mikel) Rimes. He grew up in Marcellus and was active throughout his school years. While attending Marcellus High School, he participated in baseball, basketball, and football. He was also a member of the school band, served as Vice President of his sophomore class, and was Secretary of his senior class.
Following his graduation from Marcellus High School on May 24, 1945, Moon proudly enlisted in the United States Navy. He served his country honorably and returned to Michigan in the fall of 1946.
After his military service, Moon worked for Clifton Engineering Company in Three Rivers and later for the Marcellus Lumber Company. On July 31, 1949, he married the love of his life, June McNeal, at the Marcellus Methodist Church.
Moon began his professional career in real estate with Colpert Realty before working for General Telephone for 15 years. In 1966, he partnered with Bob Powers to purchase Abbott & Powers Insurance Agency. After buying out his partner in 1976, Moon continued operating the agency until his retirement in 1986.
A dedicated member of his community, Moon was active in the Marcellus Lions Club, the Marcellus Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star, and served on the local school board.
Together, Moon and June raised four children: Michael Alan, Kerry Lee, Karen Lynn, and Michelle Ann. Their family grew to include 19 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought them immense joy and pride.
Moon and June enjoyed traveling throughout Europe and the Orient while operating their insurance agency. Later in life, they spent their winters in Sarasota, Florida, and their summers at their beloved home on Gravel Lake in Michigan.
Moon loved golfing, fishing, and sharing time with family and friends. One of his greatest pleasures was taking loved ones on pontoon boat rides around the lake, creating memories that will be cherished for generations.
He is survived by his children, Michael (Tami) Rimes, Kerry (Sandy) Rimes, Karen Vaickus, and Michelle (Jim) Wagner; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his niece, Kimberly (Tommy) Klein; his sister-in-law, Barbara (Richard) Allen; and many beloved nieces and nephews from June's side of the family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Mary Rimes; his baby sister, Donna Mae; his brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Zoe Rimes; his nephew, Kevin Rimes; his great-grandson, Kevin Leiberman; his parents-in-law; and numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
A Celebration of Life will be held on June 25, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Marcellus VFW.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Michigan or the Marcellus VFW.
