Carmella Jean Adcox, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on May 30, 2026, at the Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville, Michigan. Born on November 2, 1956, in Highland Park, Illinois, Carmella led a life marked by strength, resilience, and an enduring spirit that touched all who knew her.

Known affectionately for her multifaceted talents, Carmella was a true Jill of all trades. Although she mastered many skills throughout her life, she found particular joy and connection in bartending. She loved listening to people’s stories, offering both a compassionate ear and a lighthearted presence. Those who frequented her bar appointments recognized the unique warmth she brought to every interaction—a testament to her fun sense of humor and genuine kindness.

Carmella was a fighter and survivor in every sense. She courageously battled ovarian cancer over a long period with unwavering determination and resolve. Even in moments when giving up seemed easier, her positivity and humor shone brightly, serving as a beacon of light in times of darkness. Her spirit inspired everyone around her, and she met each day with courage and grace.

Among her many passions were her beloved dog, and Harley’s. She was known for her whimsical habit of eating ice cream cones, a small but joyful indulgence that reflected her zest for life. An avid traveler, Carmella rarely stayed in one place too long, always eager to explore new horizons. Her love for photography, thrifting, and jewelry showcased her keen eye for beauty and creativity. Notably, one of her dearest friends was her former husband, Rick —a relationship that speaks to the warmth and depth of her character.

Carmella’s family was the core of her existence. She is survived by her devoted mother, Jean Sprague; her two loving daughters, Shayla Schaaf and Anji Armstrong (Anthony Armstrong); and her son, Richard Thompson (Adam Brown). She also leaves behind a legacy of love through her grandchildren Caleb, Ian Udell, Brendon Udell (Jaydin B.), Isabelle Armstrong (Devin H.), and Isaac Armstrong (Abby G.), as well as her cherished great-grandchildren, Piper and Emma. Her sister Carolyn Feller (Larry Feller) and their children Laura Beth and Max also survive her. The bond she shared with her best friend and former spouse, Rick Thompson, endures in the hearts of all who knew them.

Carmella was preceded in death by her brother, Thomas “Tom” Adcox, and her sister, Teresa Hite.

Throughout her life, Carmella exemplified courage, warmth, and an indomitable spirit. She faced life’s challenges with a smile and an unyielding heart. Her memory will be lovingly treasured by her family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her light continues to shine brightly in their hearts, a testament to a life well-lived and a soul deeply loved.
