It is with heavy hearts and profound love that we announce the passing of Elder Bishop Harris, who departed this life on September 22, 2026, in Battle Creek, Michigan, surrounded by the warmth of family and friends. Born on March 15, 1950, in Battle Creek, his journey was one of faith, dedication, and an enduring commitment to those around him.
He was the cherished son of the late Bishop Harris Sr. and Lucy Phene Drain. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents and sisters, Lou Verne and Martha Fisher, and his beloved nephew, Rodney Fisher. He also leaves behind his devoted wife, Melodie, with whom he shared a loving marriage since February 14, 2003, and his dear sister, Catherine, and special granddaughters, Tekarra and Te'Asia, and a host of family and friends.
A man of wisdom and kindness, he pursued education with determination, earning his GED and participating in college courses. His spiritual journey led him to be ordained as an Elder, Elder Bishop Harris, a title that he wore with pride and humility. He served the Lord as a member of Emmanuel Covenant Church International, where he served under Apostle Frederick James and Co-Pastor Shannon L. Sweet. He was known for his enlightening Sunday school teachings and occasional heartfelt sermons.
His professional life was marked by a long and dedicated career at Kellogg's, from which he retired before pursuing his passion for construction and home improvement. As the owner and operator of Bishop's Home Improvement, he brought skill and integrity to every project he undertook.
Outside of his professional and spiritual endeavors, he was a man of varied interests. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether tending to his yard on his tractor, enjoying the companionship of his little dog, Zipper, golfing, or immersing himself in the melodies of jazz, R&B, and gospel music. Above all, he found solace and inspiration in the pages of his Bible.
Those who knew him will remember him as a beacon of inspiration, known for his quick wit, generosity, and that ever-present beautiful smile. His wisdom and love for family were unmatched, and his legacy will continue to guide those he leaves behind.
Service celebrating the life of Elder Bishop Harris will be October 24th, Saturday, at 11:00 a.m. at Emmanuel Covenant Church International, 585 Hubbard St., in Battle Creek, 49017. We can be reached at 269-968-9111. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all who have supported us during this time.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in Elder Bishop's memory. His spirit lives on in the hearts of his many friends and family, and his love will forever be a guiding light in our lives. Rest in peace, Elder Bishop. You are missed beyond measure.
