Barbara Ann (Strickler) Havlik, a proud lifelong resident of Kalamazoo, Michigan, passed away peacefully on December 27, 2025, in the same city where her life began. Born on October 29, 1948, Barbara was lovingly raised by her grandparents, Ivy and Gaylord Strickler, who helped shape the bold, spirited, and deeply authentic woman she became.

Barbara lived life unapologetically and with a fierce sense of self. A proud member of the LGBTQ+ community, she embraced her identity with confidence and joy, inspiring others to do the same. She was a traveler at heart, never afraid to explore, meet new people, and strike up conversations that often turned strangers into lifelong friends. Her adventures took her from Ludington Beach to Florida, Maine, Chicago, and countless places in between.

Creativity and curiosity were woven into her daily life. She loved crafting, knitting, playing computer games, and bowling, a passion she passed down to her children, encouraging them and even placing them on bowling teams and leagues. She adored the color purple, lived with a free and adventurous spirit, and was a devoted football fan. Her artistic talents were recognized when her work was showcased at the Kalamazoo Valley Museum, a moment of pride that reflected her unique gifts. She even appeared on the Ricki Lake Show, adding yet another unforgettable chapter to her story.

Barbara spent her life working with people, and she loved every minute of it. She was a chauffeur who drove limousines, a city bus driver, and later retired from taxi driving. She cherished the many riders she met over the years, finding joy in their stories, their humor, and the connections formed along the way.

She is survived by her children: Paige (Devonta; son-in-law)(Havlik) Calbert, Bobbie Havlik, Jacob Werly, She leaves behind six grandchildren—Ja’Merion, Ja’Kobe, Jewelianna, Ja’Keem, Myles Havlik, and a sweet granddaughter on the way—each of whom brought her immense pride and joy.

Barbara is preceded in death by her beloved grandson, J. Nelson Havlik, as well as her parents, Theodore Strickler and Kathleen Rantz. Knowing she is reunited with them brings comfort to those who loved her.

She also leaves behind cherished family members and countless friends who will forever remember her honesty, her humor, her strong opinions, her lessons, and her unwavering love. Barbara was the one who kept up with everyone—family, friends, and all the people she collected along her journey. She lived boldly, loved deeply, and left behind memories that will continue to shine brightly.

Free spirited, outspoken, purple loving, and unforgettable, Barbara lived life entirely on her own terms. Her legacy is one of courage, connection, and the reminder to always be exactly who you are.
