Anthony Cheroy Holmes, a cherished soul born on May 5, 1956, in Battle Creek, transcended to eternal rest on September 7, 2025. He was a man whose spirit radiated kindness and a love for family that was genuinely infectious. A graduate of Battle Creek High School, Anthony embodied the essence of youthfulness throughout his life, staying immensely athletic and ever ready for laughter and fun with his beloved ones.
His journey into the Navy in 1976 marks a chapter of service and dedication, a facet of his life that framed his character as one of commitment and devotion. Anthony also spent two decades working at Cello-Foil, where he was known for his reliability, strong work ethic, and camaraderie with coworkers. His time there reflected the same values he carried throughout his life—loyalty, humility, and pride in a job well done.
Anthony's passion for sports was profound; he not only enjoyed playing football and basketball but also took immense pride in being an ardent fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates. Engaging in friendly competition through sports and card games, particularly spades, he treasured countless moments shared with his brothers, siblings, and extended family.
Among his proudest accomplishments was his deep-rooted role as a father. His children, Stephanie and Myles Holmes, found in him a pillar of unwavering support and love. Stephanie, with a heart full of gratitude, wishes to express her profound appreciation for the incredible father he was, declaring, “I love you with all of my heart.” This sentiment echoes the love shared amongst his family, where memories and bonds were built upon the time spent together, particularly with his grandchildren, Delaion and Stephon Broomfield, and his great-grandchild, Isaiah Broomfield.
The warmth of his familial ties extended beyond his immediate family; he cherished the relationships with his siblings, Wilie Ruben Holmes, Alvin V Holmes, Rochelle Patton, Robbie Patton, Beverly Ann Scott, and Willy Mae Hylick. In playful jest, his big brother Alvin would lightheartedly remind him that “he couldn’t play pool for nothing!” Their memories encapsulated the joyous spirit in which Anthony approached life.
As his siblings bid farewell, they convey their heartfelt love: “T Holmes, we love you!” Anthony’s legacy of kindness, humor, and passion for spending time with family will continue to resonate within the hearts of his many beloved nieces and nephews, including a particularly cherished bond with his nieces Tammy and Coco. He cultivated friendships that were equally priceless, finding joy in the camaraderie of friends like Ruby Dukes and Michael Rae Asberry (Baby momma), alongside many others who held a special place in his life. He also shared a meaningful and enduring connection with his special daughter, Keionna Asberry, whose love and presence brought him great joy.
Though he has departed from our earthly realm, the impact of his love and spirit shall forever linger in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Anthony Cheroy Holmes, a devoted father, beloved brother, and friend, leaves behind an indelible legacy defined by joy, compassion, and an enduring commitment to family.
Anthony was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Willie and Louise Holmes, and his siblings Mary Louise Andrews, Frank Tatum, Garcia Holmes, and Sandra K. Williams.
May his soul find peace in eternal rest, and may the love he gave continue to shine through the lives he touched.
