Annie Lee Hightower, a beacon of love and nurturing spirit, departed this world on November 27, 2025, in Lansing, Michigan. Born on July 10, 1950, in River Rouge, Michigan, Annie warmed the hearts of those around her with her passionate personality and compassionate nature. She was a woman who lived her life with verve, and her favorite phrase, "Do as I say, not as I do," echoed her firm yet caring approach to guiding those she loved.

Annie was devoted wholeheartedly to her family, nurturing them with a fierce dedication that knew no bounds. Her kindness radiated, touching the lives of all who had the privilege to know her. She was a spirited individual, feisty in her beliefs and unwavering in her love, embodying the essence of a devoted matriarch. Annie's love extended beyond mere words; it manifested in countless acts of affection and support that enriched the lives of her family and friends.

Her passions were as vibrant as her character. She loved her music and was frequently seen dancing to whatever music she was listening to. Annie also found delight in immersing herself in what she playfully dubbed “Spooky Movies,” filling evenings with suspense and laughter.

Annie is lovingly remembered by her children, James (Jennifer) Tolbert, and her “very special one and only” grandson, James Ellis Tolbert II, along with Justin, Aarron, and Aubri who affectionately called her Granny. She leaves behind a legacy of love, embodied by her siblings: Mary Ann (Cornell) Tolbert Wourman, Kenneth (Patricia) Tolbert, Patricia (Nathaniel Jr.) Tolbert Eady, Ira Tolbert, Adrian Tolbert, and Doris Tolbert, whose lives have been profoundly influenced by her unwavering support and affection. Additionally, Annie's spirit lives on through her special nieces and nephews: Kembria, Nathayai, Kayvonna, Felicia, Adrienne Nichole, Marcus, and Kempreall. She also had a very special bond with her niece Rhonda Althea Tolbert alongside many more family and friends who regarded her as a guiding light in their lives.

Annie has been preceded in death by her husband, James Hikie Hightower; her parents, Jimmy and Lizzie Tolbert; and her cherished siblings: Verdale Tolbert, Eddie Tolbert, John Lee Tolbert, Carolynn Tolbert Peterson, Juanita Tolbert Sellers, and Jimmy Lee Tolbert Jr.

As we reflect on the life of Annie Lee Hightower, we celebrate the indelible mark she left upon our hearts—a testament to her loving nature and feisty spirit. Her memory shall continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to encounter her love and affection.
